Event ticketing in India: when people book, what they pay, and who shows up
Live figures from 2,085 bookings (2,660 tickets) across 55 events on Vihaya Events, most of them college fests and community events in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Telangana. Updated daily; last refreshed 2026-10-17.
Key findings
- 49.4% of bookings on Vihaya Events are made in the last three days before the event, and the median booking happens 3.2 days before it starts. Only 23.7% book two weeks or more ahead.
- At finished events that scanned tickets at the gate, 66.7% of tickets sold were checked in. Organisers should expect roughly one in 3 registered attendees not to turn up.
- The median paid ticket on Vihaya Events costs ₹279, with the middle half of paid tickets priced between ₹40 and ₹369.
- 51.3% of bookings are for free events or free tickets — registration-only events are as common as paid ones.
- Bookings peak on Wednesdays, and the busiest hour of the day is 5 pm IST. 42.4% of bookings happen between 6 pm and midnight.
- 12.3% of bookings cover more than one person, with an average group of 3.2 people — teams for competitions and friends booking together.
What this means for organisers
- Most tickets sell in the last few days, so keep registration open until close to the event and plan your biggest push for the final week.
- Not everyone who registers comes. Use the expected show-up rate when ordering food, kits and seating.
- Evenings are when people book — that is the best time to post reminders and announcements.
Methodology
Confirmed bookings only — pending, cancelled and refunded bookings and test events are excluded. Ticket prices are what attendees actually paid per ticket, net of refunds. Booking lead time is measured from the booking to the event (or session) start. Show-up rate covers finished events that used QR check-in. Times are in IST. Any figure based on fewer than 30 bookings is not shown. No individual event or attendee data is published. You may quote these figures with a link to this page (CC BY 4.0).
